Undo for AI-built projects: the whole landscape

Every tool in this space answers the same question ("can I get back to when it worked?") with a different scope. The scope is the whole comparison, so that's the table:

toolwhat it can undowhere it stops
Claude Code rewindClaude's own edits, within recent sessions on that machinenot other tools' edits, not a permanent archive, not off-machine
Cursor checkpointsagent edits, per conversationgone when the chat ages out; per-file local history is the fallback
GitHub Desktopanything, at the moments you manually committeddepends entirely on your commit habit; restore takes git knowledge
GitButleranything, via its operations log; built with agents in minddeveloper-oriented; lives on your machine
Time Machine / Backblazewhole-computer, hourly-ishcoarse snapshots; awkward for "the project as of Tuesday 2pm"
Plyowhole project, every working state, from any machine, any toolneeds its one-paste setup before the disaster, like everything here

The honest layering

These aren't rivals; they're layers. The in-tool undos (Claude Code, Cursor) are the fastest fix for a mistake made minutes ago and you should know their shortcuts regardless. A machine backup protects everything else you own. The gap between those layers is the project-level, off-machine, permanent history that survives tool switches and dead laptops, and you get it either by maintaining a git habit (GitHub Desktop), adopting a git power tool (GitButler), or giving the project a home that maintains it automatically (Plyo, free for 3 projects, one paste of setup for any AI tool).

The test for whatever you pick

One question sorts every option: if your laptop died right now, and you'd also switched AI tools last week, could you get yesterday's working version back in five minutes? If the answer is yes, your setup is fine, whichever row of the table it came from.

Plyo is the home for AI-built projects — every version saved, one click to undo, one click to publish, plus a safety check, visitor counts and backups. Free to start: 3 projects, no card needed.
